Build the Web!: Online 6 Week Website Design After School-Club
The Build the Web! Club is a six-week, hands-on online after-school programme designed to introduce young learners aged 13-15 to the exciting world of website design and web development. Through live tutor-led sessions, creative coding challenges, and practical projects, students will learn how websites are built from scratch using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WordPress.
Each 90-minute session is delivered online in small groups by experienced tutors, giving every student plenty of opportunities to ask questions, receive personalized support, and develop their skills at their own pace. Whether your child dreams of becoming a web developer, designer, entrepreneur or simply wants to understand how websites work, this programme will build confidence, creativity and problem-solving skills, no previous coding experience required.
Course Breakdown
Week 1: How the Internet Works
Discover how websites work, how the internet connects people around the world and how browsers and servers communicate to display web pages. Students will build a strong understanding of their foundations of the web before writing their first lines of code.
Week 2: Building Websites with HTML
Learn how professional developers create websites using Visual Studio Code and HTML. Students will build their first webpage by adding headings, paragraphs, images, links, lists and navigation while understanding how web pages are structured.
Week 3: Designing with CSS
Transform simple webpages into attractive, professional looking websites using CSS. Students will customize colours, fonts, layouts, spacing, backgrounds and responsive page designs while learning principles of good web design.
Week 4: Making Websites interactive with JavaScript
Discover how JavaScript brings websites to life. Students will learn programming fundamentals including variables, functions, events and user interactions while creating webpages that respond to user actions.
Week 5: Designing for Everyone
Explore the importance of user experience (UX) and accessibility in modern web design. Students will learn how to create websites that are easy to navigate, accessible to all users and designed with real audiences in mind.
Week 6: Publish Your Website with WordPress
Bring everything together by creating and publishing a website using WordPress. Students will customize themes, organise content and combine everything they have learned into a website they can proudly share with family and friends.
