Build the Web!

The Build the Web! Club is a six-week, hands-on after-school programme designed to introduce your child to the exciting world of web development and design. Each week introduces a new web development skill through coding activities, design challenges and real-world projects. First, students build web pages with HTML. Next, they style them with CSS. Then, they add interactive features using JavaScript. Finally, they publish their own website with WordPress.

Experienced tutors deliver each 90-minute online session in small groups, giving every student plenty of opportunities to ask questions and receive feedback. Whether your child dreams of becoming a software developer, designer, entrepreneur, or simply wants to understand how the internet works, this club will build their confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills—no prior coding experience required.

Course Breakdown

Week 1: How the Internet Works

Discover what websites are, how the internet connects people around the world, and how browsers and servers work together to display the websites we use every day. Students will gain a solid understanding of the foundations of the web before writing their first lines of code.

Week 2: Web Development with HTML

Learn how developers write code using professional tools before creating a first web page with HTML and VSCode. Students will structure content using headings, paragraphs, images, links, and navigation to bring their ideas to life.

Week 3: Web Design with CSS

Explore how CSS transforms plain webpages into visually appealing designs. Students will customise colours, fonts, backgrounds, layouts, and responsive page structures to make their websites look professional and engaging.

Week 4: Making Websites Interactive with JavaScript

Discover how JavaScript adds interactivity to websites. Students will learn about variables, events, and simple programming concepts while creating webpages that respond to user actions.

Week 5: Designing for Everyone

Learn why accessibility and user experience are essential parts of great web design. Students will explore how to make websites easy to navigate, inclusive, and enjoyable for all users through thoughtful design choices and accessibility features.

Week 6: Publish Your Own Website with WordPress

Discover how millions of websites are built using WordPress. Students will create their own simple website using themes and templates, combining everything they’ve learned throughout the course into a project they can proudly share with family and friends.
